tacoma, washington
Once again I apologize for not updating this in so long. Tomorrow night we will be home. It went by so fast. The last two weeks or so were fun but also kind of hard. We didn't seem to have very good luck in the middle of the country as far as people liking our band goes. That's alright though we made it home. Hopefully they'll like us better next time. We slept, ate, and showered in a lot of truck stops. I think we're getting pretty good at it. If you've got a decent setup to sleep in your van those places are just as good as hotels I swear. Plus the showers are always really nice. You just have to get organized so everyone can take one without getting caught. We had an interesting Easter Sunday. We were at a truck stop somewhere in Ohio. I woke up early and hung out by myself all morning waiting for everyone else to get up. It was pretty nice. I got to finish my book. Anyways, by the time everybody did wake up and was ready to go, the van would not start. It just wouldn't turn over. So we had an Easter church service in our van and it was very powerful. Just the seven of us. We hadn't been to any church in a long time. I really love everybody else in this band. After we finished praying we tried the van again and it started up just like normal. It was kind of crazy. So many crazy things have happened to us on this trip I can't even remember them all. It's so great to just take comfort in the fact that God will always take care of you. That's pretty much all we're going on right now. Boulder, Colorado was a blast. That city is so beautiful it's ridiculous. I think we got our first good review! www.emotionalpunk.com. I also got to see some family so that was pretty cool. But we got stuck in the snow going through the Rockies and it was a little scary. Flashbacks and everything. Not very fun. I don't think I'll every really be able to enjoy snow like I used to. But we got to Utah safely, just slowly. Provo was very fun as well. If you haven't already heard of Jamen Brooks you should definitely check him out. We got to see Pedro at Graceland in Seattle. Thank you Amanda for buying us tickets. He was really great. I was pretty sick that day, even throwing up and stuff, but I felt a lot better by the time we got to Seattle and that concert just made my night. I can't wait for his new cd. Seattle was pretty fun as always. We got to hang out with everyone from Tooth & Nail and got some new cd's and things. We played pretty badly last night in Tacoma but most people said it sounded fine so i guess that's okay. We're all really excited to see our friends in San Francisco tomorrow! I'll try to update this more often. Thanks for reading. From, Roger | | Friday, April 11th, 2003 | | 2:10 am |
Mt. Holly, New Jersey
well well well... you guys might of heard that we got in an accident... yeh, it was true and freakin' crazy... we were on the way to boston from new york... lane was driving and i was riding shotgun looking at the map... it was snowing and freezing, when we began skidding off the road rolling the van. it was pretty scary we almost died and we are so thankful to god for saving us out of an almost death experience... no one was really hurt which is amazing some of us shouldnt be here right now, so we definitely count it as a miracle. well the night before this ordeal we had pulled an all nighter downtown new york... we got to time square at about 10 p.m. and decided that we would hang out and claim this wicked city for ourselves... we just walked around looking at all the sights having no money so we just got to look at things rather than experience them... but that was okay because we made it fun anyway... we went to virgin mega store and saw copeland's cd on the bands to look out for rack... really exciting for them!!! early that morning we went on the today show but left before we got on - but we were there... well that is as much as i can think of right now so bless you and have fun love...........luke..................... .... | | Sunday, April 6th, 2003 | | 1:52 am |
monroe, new york
i haven't been able to get on a computer in awhile. i apologize to anyone who has been trying to keep tabs on us. we're in new jersey right now at a guys house who is in a band called copperpot. we played with them tonight along with a few other bands at a place called club static in monroe. they really were very good you should try and find out more about them if you're interested. it's neat to be here. when we were driving back to his house we came around a corner and the whole sky was lit up like sunrise. it was all the lights from new york. very cool. we're only about 30 miles away. it's pretty cold up here. i get to see my brother when we play in massachusetts. now im on his turf. how funny. this last week went by very fast. the tour is halfway done. we'll be back in california on the 28th of this month. i'm sure it will be here before i know it. we got to play with the beautiful mistake last night in pennsylvania. those guys are way cool it was nice to see them. the bass player from a band called anarchaos got in a fight with some other guy. andy saw it so he had to go to the police station to give a statement. there was thunder and lightning in the background the whole afternoon and once it got dark it started raining big fat drops. were still having a very good time. it will be nice to be back in california. from roger | | Sunday, March 30th, 2003 | | 1:18 am |
Atlanta, Georgia
hey bro man dude i almost forgot to tell you guys, it was lane's birthday today kind of well i guess yesterday because it is 1 a.m. well anyways tell him happy birthday or something. He is 20 years old oh man he is getting old? Roger, Lane, and Erin just went to the Waffle house to get some food, but i stayed to tell you what we were doing - thanks a lot... only joking geezer's! Kendall is really sick right now so he slept in the van while we played are wicked show in Athens, Georgia. I had a lot of fun and Brian from Copeland took a really bad picture of me and it looked like i was dealing with indigestion or something. Andy is as Andy as ever entertaining the masses and representing good 'ol Cali rightly. Roger isn't single anymore ladies he seems really happy which is awesome! He is still trying to save the princess so don't talk to him right now because he is concentrating. So Seth is working magic winning the hearts of everyone i don't know how he does it everyone, he has probably picked up a dozen numbers within the past couple of days. Bless his heart... so thats some stuff that i forgot to include late luke. | | 12:44 am |
Atlanta, Georgia
Okay everyone, sorry it's been so long since we have written. Well anyways we are having loads of fun and it feels like a big adventure around America. Florida was fun as we went gator huntin'and swimming in the atlantic ocean, it was quite a novelty. Oh yeah we played a birthday party for Heather. It was a surprise party, initially being a little awkward seeing as we were playing for someone we didn't know, however, it ended up being really fun. So 'hello' Heather and all the girls that we hung out with in Atlanta. Well right now we are all staying at Copeland's apartment with everyone else and then some. Something rather frustrating that recently took place was when tooth and nail sent us are 3 song EPs to sell while we are on the Copeland tour having the wrong song on it. The EP was supposed to have "All of me", "With love from me to you" and "Clear". However, instead of "Clear" they put on a song called "The court yard" which isn't even going to be on the full length record. So this little incident caused a little stir among us all, but you know what can you do other than just put your head down and press through... Well for all of you who actually read this bless you and comment if you wish. love luke. | | Sunday, March 23rd, 2003 | | 3:13 pm |
Lakeland, Florida
hello everyone, we are in Florida at the moment and we are just getting ready to play a show tonight. We are staying with a guy called Tim who graciously allowed us to invade his apartment and take up carpet space for the night. On Friday night we drove down from Jackson into the wicked awesome city of New Orleans, Louisiana. This town was so much fun with so much culture surrounding it and music playing on every street corner. All of us went to Cafe Du Monde and had some coffee and donuts. Soon after we were just hanging out on some steps watching an entertaining street blues band when a vietnam war vet called Mike came up to Lane and Erin and offered us all free tickets to the House of Blues. It seemed really sketchy, but we accepted them very freely. Mike quickly became our very own tour guide sharing history of all the different locations. When we got to the very first House of Blues we were so excited that it was for real walking in and taking a step to watch Big Al Carson and the Blues Masters. Seth joined the dance floor busting moves like no other white boy, quickly accompanied by Lane, Erin, and Andy. It was a fun night that just seemed to fall right in our laps. All night we assumed there would be a catch. However, the night turned out to be a God night and we found out Mike was a christian. We prayed for him and he sent us off to our most recent destination Lakeland, Florida. We are all learning tons and God is amazing. talk to you soon. luke. | | Friday, March 21st, 2003 | | 2:34 am |
jackson mississippi
hey hey. i like jackson... we woke up at a descent 10 o-clock this fine morning. we had a wonder ful breakfast made with love for us by brads mom. bless her heart. we had a solid three hour drive to jackson, it felt really good. i slept most of it, and i woke up with the sun on my face and the AC blowing on my back, rog was playing metroid and the boys were laughing. it made me really happy. i felt alot of peace in my head. so then we arrived. and this nice boy named drew greeted us. hes cool. he had some sandwiches for us and some really good cookies. bless his heart as well. some of us skateboarded for a little bit, i like watching my friends skateboard and play video games alot. i like my friends...they are the best. im a lucky kid to have such good friends.... anyways.... so we brought our stuff in. then we had a little wrestling fest. it started with luke and roger...then me and lane...he kicked me in the lip on accident. it was really fun. i like copeland. we had alot of fun just sitting around with them. so la la la, the show was really fun, kids in mississipi are really cool. this really good band called fletcher played. one word esperanzaplantation.com ....that was my plug. copeland played really good too. i made alot of new friends tonight. cool people. after the show luke and erin played some of their songs. they right good songs. lukes songs make me feel silly...because they are so good. we went and ate at this place called the waffel house after. so wonderful. clarice..your great...(she was our waitress) she was the the kind of person i wanna be like. her smile could put you in a good mood for a week. the kinda person that makes you feel like a million bucks. bless her heart. so thats jackson mississippi.... praise the lord. seth | | Wednesday, March 19th, 2003 | | 6:31 pm |
memphis, tennessee
hopefully we'll get to see graceland while we're here. the concert last night was a lot of fun. there was only about 20 people there but it was still really cool. first this girl named katie sang and played piano and she was awesome. then a band called the exception played and they were awesome! they were only 14 and 15 and they really rocked. it sounded like george thoroughgood and the black crowes and stuff like that. then for the last song they played my generation and it was so good. copeland was late because the weather was so bad but they got there just before we played. they're cool guys. we played alright i think. they played last and it sounded really good. they are a good band i think. just for the record, luke and i beat andy and kendall at foosball. don't let them tell you any differently. we stayed at this girl named jenny's dad's house. she is katie's friend and they live in fayetteville. it was a huge house! it was 3 stories with a spa and a huge yard and game room and a music room and a huge kitchen and all kinds of stuff. it was really nice i wish we could have stayed there longer. they were nice girls. the drive to memphis was not that long. it was a very pretty drive. i can't imagine what it must have looked like during the fall because there were miles and miles of bare trees. i bet it's awesome. we're playing at a churchy kind of place tonight right in the middle of all of these frat houses at a college. it's kind of weird. hopefully some people will show up. | | Monday, March 17th, 2003 | | 11:33 pm |
fort smith, arkansas
today was nice. we got to arkansas around 2 this afternoon. the drive was really great. it went by so fast. its pretty here. we drove around for a little bit and then found a hotel. it was so nice to get out of the car. i must have stretched for five minutes straight. we all cleaned up and then went to the mall and the grocery store. theres a cool tattoo place downtown and a nice coffee shop. it will be fun to hang out here tomorrow after we check out of the room. after sunset it started to get crazy. suddenly there were dozens of packs of drunk people roaming around and causing problems. we saw a fight and two hit and runs just standing outside our room. plus this guy tried to break into our van when seth was inside it. he got scared and ran away but know theres a car parked across the street with these guys sitting in it like they're scoping out the situation or something. and this white van with no wondows keeps driving by and stopping and then driving off. fort smith seemed like such a nice town at first. its ok though we've got andy to keep watch so there's nothing to worry about. at this moment there's three or four police sirens driving by. i guess that means it's time for bed. | | 6:27 pm |
i regret not writing anything while we were on tour with further seems forever. whenever i look back on the things i have written im always really glad that i did. that was such a fun trip. it would be hard to really say anything about it in detail, but even after all these years i am still so excited about our band. its nice to be a part of something that i really believe in even though a lot of people might not agree. we watched some old videos today of canada and our tour with philmore and its funny to see how much weve changed in the last few years, mostly unconciously. i miss mike being in the band a lot, but i know it just wasn't meant to be. hes doing pretty good on his own. hes going to school and hes still going out with jen. he seems pretty happy with where hes at. i know that luke is supposed to be here with us right now and i know he thinks so too. that's a nice feeling. right now we're in new mexico, somewhere outside of gallup. we'll probably be in arkansas sometimes tomorrow night im guessing. how fun! i've never been there before. we found out that copeland got in a car accident today. i hope they make it there ok. we practiced last night and then left around 12. it was very bittersweet. my girlfriend kissed me last night for the first time. noelle is such a huge blessing to me! a lot happened in the two weeks that we were home. somehow she surprised me every single day. driving this morning was so much fun for me. it rained hard the whole way from needles to gallup and it even snowed in flagstaff!. i love being back in the middle of the country again. i've got a great job even though it doesn't pay very much. | | Saturday, November 2nd, 2002 | | 10:48 am |
thank you to everyone who came to the concert at 2 dogs on halloween. that was a lot of fun i'm glad all of you were there. i hope you all had a good time too. sorry that it was so loud :) last night we played in mission viejo with buddy ruckus and man alive again and also slow coming day and a band called name taken. it was alos a lot of fun and totally worth the trip. i just want all of you to know that man alive is one of the best bands around. they are seriously so talented. i highly recommend that you listen to their cd. or you should go and see a concert they will be on tour for another month or so and are also coming back this summer. trust me you'll really like them. | | Saturday, October 26th, 2002 | | 1:19 pm |
in case anyone is intersted, here are some older entries that i was never able to post: 9-21-02 8:30 AM well, the past two and a half days were by far the most fun and exciting and encouraging days of my entire life. the trip to canada was so amazing. it was the definitely the most uncomfortable time ive had to spend in a car. but everytime we stopped and got out of the car we met the most incredible people. we all met at tia juanas at about 2 on thursday and ate and then left. that was a really good way to start the trip. in king city we stopped for gas and it just so happenned that the cashier used to be the drummer for snot and he had recorded with garth a couple of years earlier. that was kind of weird. everytime we stopped the world just kept getting smaller and smaller. in redding we met chad and jamie at starbucks. chad had an mxpx shirt on. he actually owned a copy of our cd but had never listened to it. they were really neat people and we ended up staying and talking with them for a couple of hours. there was also a guy there named thomas who was slow because of a drug overdose but he loved the lord. he was fearless. he actually just called us yesterday to see how we were doing. if the world was filled with pepole more like him it would be a much better place. towards the end a few more people showed up. two guys that were friends with chad and that knew brendan and kevin. small world. after that we didnt really stop until seattle except for quick stops for gas and stuff but everyone that we did talk to was so nice. we finally got to seattle at about 11 in the morning on friday. it was my 7th grade dream come true. everything was just like i pictured it would be. chad (a different chad) gave us a tour and introduced us to everyone and then left us alone for awhile. they said we could take pretty much whatever we wanted from the wherehouse. i think we may have abused that privilege a little :). i actually didnt get that much because i was getting directions to garths house while everyone else was downstairs having fun. but i did get a backpack and a sweatshirt and some new shirts. And I got DEMON HUNTER! They’re my new favorite band. mike got like 20 new cds. it was really fun. chad took us out to lunch to a place called thaiku afterwards and it was good. then we headed up to canada. it is so beautiful here its a little ridiculous. at the border they kind of gave us a hard time because we didnt have our birth certificates but the immigration guy was nice so we got lucky and they let us in. while we were at immigration we met this guy and his girlfriend and their kids. they were from paso robles and they were moving to alaska. the guy was stopped because he had a gun in the car. that wasnt a big deal because he told them he had it but while they were looking for the gun they found and empty grenade shell antique thing that he had in the car (the guy was a little weird, but thats probably why he was moving to Alaska). even though the grenade was disarmed and everything they still had to stop the guy and his family and call in the bomb squad. they were going to be there for awhile. the guy said he also had a "nug of chronic" in his car so i hope he didnt get in to much trouble for that. the traffic was really bad once we got into canada so it took us a lot longer than we expected to get to vancouver. vancouver is the most beautiful city that ive ever seen. all of the streets are clean and the people are pleasant and the architecture is just incredible. it seems like 95 percent of the whole place is glass. we missed the 5:30 ferry but it was perfect because. the one at 7:30 came with the an absolutley amazing sunset. i dont think ill ever forget it. while we were waiting to board the ferry some people pulled up behind us that we had seen in the city before and we talked to them for a long time. it was an interesting conversation to say the least. we pretty much talked about everything from masonic conspiracy to the dead sea scrolls to the problems with the american and canadian governements. it was hard to keep up but it was really entertaining. we hung out with them on the ferry ride too. I don’t think ill ever forget that ferry ride. The moon was on the water and it was so cold and everything was just perfect. Those boats are incredible. Some drunk girls even hit on seth. After the ferry ride it was just another five minutes to garths house and we managed to get there without getting too lost. The house and the studio should be on mtv cribs. It is spectacular. Garth is awesome. They were all on the porch clapping when we drove because they were expecting us to get there around six and by this time it was almost nine. He showed where we were going to be sleeping and everything (I wont try to describe it but ill put up pictures later, we were blown away) and then introduced us to his girlfriend Debbie, her friend Brenda, dean, ben, and darryl who are all helping on different parts of recording. He made it really clear that all he wanted us to to do that night was eat and talk and relax and that’s all we did. Debbie made a delicious dinner starting with crackers and antipasto and then Italian sausage with grilled onions, mouthwatering chicken, potato salad, bokchoy, hamburgers and strawberry cheesecake for desert. I have a feeling there’s going to be a lot of good food happening up here. We hung out until pretty late. Kendall, mike, and I watched sopranos for a little bit and then we went to bed. We all fell asleep as son as our heads hit the pillows. Right now were at a different studio in Vancouver called the greenhouse where all of lanes drums are being recorded. we get to stay in a hotel here for two days so that’s going to be a blast. It really is a beautiful city. This studio is very impressive as well. It’s the real thing. Its actually kind of intimidating but I think well be ok. Were going to get our butts kicked. 9-23-02 it’s about 11 in the morning and mike and I are sitting in dean’s car waiting for the ferry. We’re on our way back to garth’s house and I get to start recording my parts today. The last two days were really draining but really fun at the same time. The drums are all finished and a lot of our songs were changed for the better. We also got to spend a lot of time practicing while lane was recording so that was good. WE also ordered from from a couple different really good restaurants. It’s so neat to be able to practice in an environment like that rather than an office or a garage. The hotel we stayed at was pretty nice but we didn’t spend very much time there. Seth and I jumped off the 2nd floor naked and went swimming. Kendall got it on video. Canadians smoke a lot of marijuana. Something else that weve noticed is that there are a lot of pretty girls here. Id like to move here someday. I think we all would. Canadians have it all figured out. Weve learned that Canadians don’t have guns, they’re really nice, they have mountees instead of highway patrol, they don’t like george bush jr or sr, they have really nice payphones, they have a lot of good reasons why the metric system is better than our system (I agree), and they think that canada is better than america (they make some good points, but we’re still sovereign and that’s the end of it). Some people that we met that are Kondor and Lindsey who both work at the studio. They were both very nice. Im excited about going on the ferry again. Im sure that if you lived here you’d get sick of it after awhile but I think that that it’s so fun. Im also excited to get back to the house because it is so nice there. Kendalls going to hook up the gamecube today and im going to play Frisbee golf. He has a nine hole Frisbee golf course. Tell me it can get any better. 9-24-02 its another beautiful morning. Its about 9:45 and I just woke up. I slept really well. We didn’t go to bed until around 2:30. yesterday was funny. I guess we just didn’t realize that when you start watching the sopranos you can’t stop. We watched ten straight episodes. I actually took a break in the middle to play Frisbee golf and rest my eyes and stuff but kendall, mike and lane watched every single one. When we got back to the house yesterday we just had to unload everything but that didn’t take very long. Then we had the rest of the day to ourselves. It was really nice. There was another really good dinner. Hamburgers and chicken and salmon and onion pie with freshly baked bread. I had never had onion pie before and I really liked it. The chef is coming this morning and I get to start recording today. 9-27-02 this time is really going by fast. I finished recording yesterday. It took about two and half fourteen hour days. It was big relief to finally be done. Now its seths turn. Everything is sounding really good so far. Were almost done with the third season of sopranos. I started a game of Mario cleaning party. I plan on getting really good at Frisbee golf. But other than that theres not a whole lot to besides relax. Its really nice. I wish I could get my computer online. I guess ill just have to wait until I get back. Later that evening… Well this is really fun. We just ate a really good spaghetti dinner and then dean, daryll, ben, diane and her daughter Rachel, seth, and I played Frisbee golf. I need to practice. I just got to relax all day. We do not deserve this. I don’t want to go home. I wish time could stand still for a little bit. 10-01-02 wow these days sure are going by fast. Well be home in no time. Not a whole lot has happened in the last few days. Weve just been sitting around here trying to save our money. Seth finished his guitars today and is starting on vocals tonight. Hopefully mike will get to start his guitar stuff tonight as well. I got really sick the other night. That’s was not much fun. I was throwing up and everything. I guess it was the flu. At first I just really wished I was home but actually this one of the best places I could be. If I was in san luis and had gotten sick I would have been miserable. When I woke up the next morning I felt almost all back to normal except just a little queasy. Lane got pretty sick one night too. I guess there was just something going around. Now were immune. We played the first game of the usa vs. Canada touch football series today and kicked major butt. Darryle was on our tema because kendall went in to town. I scored a touchdown. Mike scored the winning touchdown. A pass interception in our own endzone and a 100 yard sprint to win the game. We were all breathing pretty hard afterwards. a new sopranos is on tonight. I am in love with meadow. Shes such a brat but I just don’t care. 10-12-02 now we are on our way home. We stopped to eat pizza in Portland about a half an hour ago. Its really hard to type because this car is SMALL. The past three weeks were probably the best three weeks ive ever had. Just like tour, we could spend hours laughing and telling stories, but no one else will every think its as funny as we do. There were so many good memories made and a lot of new friends too. we had our very first photo shoot today. That was kind of interesting. My arms are cramping like crazy so ill stop. | | Monday, October 14th, 2002 | | 3:02 pm |
now we are home. my laptop is busted. no more little gadgets for me that was my last one. hopefully i can get all of the stuff off of it and i can post some pictures and more entries and things. the trip was amzing. it was definitely one of the best things ive ever gotten to do. its also very nice to be home. its all good. | | Thursday, October 10th, 2002 | | 6:57 pm |
tomorrow is our last day of recording here. all of the harmonies and everything should be finished tonight and tomorrow will probably just be little stuff. as of this morning we are officially a tooth and nail band. that was kind of a big step, but i really think it was a smart one. everything about them has been great so far. they really took a big risk having us come up here without a signed contract. im glad everything is offical now. its a nice feeling. im looking forward to coming home it will be nice to be back on the central coast. i keep having this dream that goes something like this. awhile ago, maybe ten years or so, half of the people in the world brushed their teeth with toothbrushes and toothpaste and the other half just used pencils. now im the only one still using a pencil. i wonder if that has anything to do with anything. |
